What is cellulite and how it is formed
Fat accumulation in some parts can give a dimpled appearance known as cellulite. Cellulite is very normal and is not dangerous at all, it is just some fats under your skin. The lumps you see are nothing but due to the pressure of the cellulite against the connective tissues, so basically everyone is subjected to cellulite.
Who gets cellulite
Women are more subjected to find cellulite in their bodies than men. Cellulite presence is actually due to hormonal changes, so they are mostly present more actively in girls and older women. In men, collagen is patterned in an X-like shape that leaves some spaces to form some fat compartments that are very small, not allowing a lot of cellulite to form. However, women’s collagen are patterned in rows, making fats compartmentalization much easier than in men, making cellulite appear.
How does cellulite form?
First, the skin dermis begins to degrade, making blood vessels break down. Fat cells then start getting rich in lipids and get very large, making fluids accumulate more in the tissues as the blood vessels broke down. Fats then accumulate in the dermis and the tissues gain the ability to retain more water.
Second, the degradation of the dermis continues and the fats start growing even larger by grouping, pushing the blood vessels farther. Such inflammation creates some space in the dermis and a path for the immune cells is created. This space creates more path for fluids to tank in.
Third, the dermis metabolism starts getting lower and lower as your blood vessels are broken down and pushed away, which reduces the protein repair and synthesis in this area. Accordingly, your dermal layer starts being thinner and some fat cell groups are formed.
Fourth, the last step of cellulite formation is that some nodules are found in the dermal layer where they are simply clustered fat cells that are encapsulated in a hardened protein shell, making what you observe as “cellulite”
